The resources sector is a vital contributor to the Territory economy and jobs, and Minister for Primary Industry and Resources today outlined what the Northern Territory Government is doing to attract more investment in the industry.

Creating jobs and boosting the economy - gold mine expansion
The Chief Minister officially opened the US$120 million (A$154 million) expansion of Newmont’s Tanami Operations at Granites Gold Mine.
The expansion will allow Newmont to produce up to an additional 80 000 ounces of gold per year.
Space MOU set to beam jobs to Territorians
The Northern Territory Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the South Australian and Australian Capital Territory governments to grow and develop Australia’s space industry.
The MOU comes as the Chief Minister attends the International Astronautical Conference in Adelaide, the largest space event in the world that provides an opportunity to promote Australia’s space capabilities to global industry players.

NT plans to rocket ahead in space race
Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner will seek an audience with NASA next week when the 'Olympics of space' visits Adelaide, as Aboriginal groups push on with plans to launch rockets from Arnhem Land and take the country's oldest civilisation into its newest industry.
NT is among those jurisdictions competing to host new space-related businesses in Australia. In July, The Australian revealed that Equatorial Launch Australia was in talks with traditional owners about launching small satellites from a site about 600km east of Darwin.

Major milestone for job-creating ship lift
A Project Development Agreement (PDA) has been signed between the Northern Territory Government and the Paspaley Group to deliver a Ship Lift and Marine Industries Project - a major milestone that paves the way for hundreds of construction and ongoing jobs for Territorians.
The Chief Minister said the Ship Lift Facility would drive local industry, create local jobs and consolidate Darwin’s position as a hub for marine maintenance and servicing.
