Department of Justice

Department of Contruction and Infrastructure
The department plays a lead role in planning, constructing and maintaining government infrastructure across the Territory.
The department is also responsible for construction of all social and Government Employee Housing on an agency basis to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Regional Services.

Department of Lands and Planning
The Northern Territory Department of Lands and Planning has the responsibility for developing and providing the strategic planning and growth frameworks, strategies and infrastructure plans required to sustainably develop the Territory.
Important areas of focus will include comprehensive analysis of growth trends to inform government decision making, a strategic land use plan for the greater Darwin region, Territory wide residential and industrial land release programs, planning for the City of Weddell and a new regional transport framework.

Department of Education and Training
The department provides and promotes quality education and training for Territorians and employs 4,500 people across the Territory, including 3,800 teachers, principals and other school staff. The department is also working to increase access to training pathways for Territorians to build or expand their skills.

The department is responsible for conserving, enhancing and ensuring access to, and enjoyment of, the Northern Territory’s natural and cultural assets. Darwin Port Corporation
A business division of the Northern Territory Government, the corporation is responsible for the management and operation of the Port of Darwin. It also provides support to the marine industry, development and management of the Darwin Wharf Precinct for tourism and recreation and provision of port and reception facilities for cruise and naval vessels.

Land Development Corporation
The Land Development Corporation is the Northern Territory Government’s leading land developer. It provides companies easy access to a range of strategically located industrial and commercial land ready for development.
The Corporation assists key sectors to take advantage of major industrial projects in the region with a choice of lot sizes, locations and onsite facilities to suit the needs of a wide variety of industry and business.
The Corporation also applies its substantial knowledge and experience to the development of land for residential use to accommodate the Territory’s growing population and workforce.

Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority
The Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority is a statutory authority established under the Sacred Sites Act to administer sacred site protection in the NorthernTerritory at arms length from the Northern Territory Government. The Sacred Sites Act is considered to be best practice legislation for the protection of Aboriginal sacred sites.
